Hushmore High School seniors are at the final stretch. Prom and graduation are just around the corner, and the nervous excitement in the air is palpable. Yet, Kory Diffoten can’t afford the luxury of sharing the same giddy excitement as his classmates because he’s too stressed over Aunt Rudy. She’s the one person who can actually help him with the fiasco he’s caught up in, and she also happens to be stuck in a coma, albeit a self-induced one. Busy investigating in another realm, Aunt Rudy is attempting to solve the mystery surrounding the necklace once and for all. Unfortunately, to the uninformed eyes of her doctors, she appears to be at death’s door and if things don’t change soon, they will act accordingly.
Meanwhile, Kory is in the middle of adjusting to his new lifestyle, mending his friendship with Jakil, agonizing over prom, and trying to figure out whether he can put the trouble with Mr. Calsar behind him since the man has been missing-in-action. But when the threat looming over Kory spreads its reach through fellow Hushmore students, he is forced to accept that just because Mr. Calsar is out of sight doesn’t mean he can put Mr. Calsar out of mind. Like a master puppeteer, the lunatic former teacher is still pulling a lot of strings.
A final showdown is on the horizon once the whole sordid and tragic truth is brought to light. Kory just hopes he can keep himself and his friends safe long enough to make it to graduation, and beyond.
Lunatic is the third and final installation of the Lunacy series.

Kory Diffoten thought his senior year of high school couldn’t get any stranger after suffering the most bizarre freak-accident Hushmore High School ever saw. Yet, upon returning to school, he soon realizes his worst nightmares are just getting started. Not only is the unusual new gym teacher still on his case about a potentially stolen piece of jewelry connected to his new best friends, Jakil Dunston and Ronda Smith, but Kory also finds himself dealing with unsettling symptoms that he’s pretty sure have nothing to do with typical adolescence. That’s not to say teenaged drama isn’t a problem as well—he has no idea how to sort out his feelings toward Ronda, especially since he’s caught in the middle between her and Jakil.
Hence, nothing can be more inconvenient than the news that his crazy Aunt Rudy is coming to town for the pre-holiday season. As if life hadn’t already grown complicated enough, his aunt’s presence forces him to realize he has more in common with her than he could have ever imagined—or feared.
Shocking discoveries await Kory, and he is astonished to learn that a lot of the answers to his present and future lie far in the past. And it’s only a matter of time before the past repeats itself…

Life apart from her twin, Matilda, isn’t easy for Charlotte Lakewood. On the other hand, life with Matilda wasn’t exactly easy either. In more ways than the obvious, Charlotte always felt the two of them were too close for comfort, which especially presented problems when she was regularly blamed for her sister’s disturbing antics.
Upon starting college, Charlotte finally feels free from her sister’s clutches. The freedom is short-lived though, when she returns home over summer break only to become the prime suspect in a murder investigation. Even though Charlotte experiences occasional black-outs, she’s sure she would remember if she hurt someone. Hence, she has a terrible feeling Matilda may be the real culprit. The only problem is that Matilda has been dead for nearly three years…
Things quickly spiral out of Charlotte’s control when she is summoned for questioning by Detective Mallone and search warrants lead authorities to some of the most private details of the Lakewood family’s lives through diaries, stolen mail, and notes from the family therapist. With Matilda possibly reaching from beyond the grave and long-lost secrets having troubling consequences, Detective Mallone soon learns that the circumstances surrounding the Lakewood family are just as terrifying as they are peculiar.
The Peculiar Case of the Lakewoods is a psychological and supernatural thriller about a family’s unusual history, the consequences of their darkest secrets, and the lives caught in the chaos.

Young Adult Urban Fantasy
It’s the late 1990s and Kory Diffoten is a bookworm with no friends apart from his English literature teacher, which is fine with him. Growing up the target of relentless teasing about his unstable aunt has made him reluctant to get close with others in the first place. However, once a freak accident renders his favorite teacher incapable of returning to Hushmore High School, Kory finds himself swept into an unexpected friendship with Ronda Smith, a pretty classmate in need of tutoring, and Jakil Dunston, her flippant boyfriend. The unlikely friendship soon takes an unexpected turn though, spawning troublesome rumors, complicated feelings, and ultimately, a police investigation.
Then there’s Kory’s increasing paranoia. He’s certain his recent affiliation with Ronda and Jakil has caught the attention of an eerie and potentially dangerous new teacher at their school for some reason. But getting anyone to take him seriously seems impossible, especially once people began to question his sanity. Kory can’t really blame them though, particularly upon noticing his sudden difficulty with separating truth from illusion...
Yet, Kory can only keep quiet for so long before things spiral out of control. But who’s going to believe him when he sometimes isn’t sure he can even believe himself?

Happy International Women's Day!
I hope everyone's year is off to a good start!
It's been nearly a month, and the film Black Panther has still been on my mind. The film's excellence has inspired so much discussion in the weeks since its release. And while everything has probably been said already, I just couldn't help having my say. So I've added a section to the site called Essays, dedicated to when a work inspires me to the point of wanting to write an analysis about it. Check out my thoughts on Black Panther here.
Also, I've updated the Recommendations section.

The Road
by: T.D. Edwards
This particular night, how strange it seemed,
Like I was in some kind of trance, or maybe stuck in a dream.
From this particular dream, it seemed I could not wake.
And I was plagued with a creepy feeling that I could not shake.
The streetlights were dim—the road was shiny and wet.
I swear a more frightful sight, I had never met.
But little did I know, the worst hadn’t occurred yet.
My sorry car had called it quits,
Refusing to move the tiniest bit.
I cranked the engine, at the end of my wits,
Because I had not yet made it home--
The battery was dead on my cell phone.
I’d have to get out and walk alone,
Facing the night all on my own.
I told myself it wasn’t far.
I’d hurry straight home from my car.
I’d call my boyfriend at the bar,
And he’d come to my rescue.
Solution in focus, I knew what to do--
I grabbed my purse and dead cell phone too.
I hopped out of the car and started to walk.
How I wished I could call someone to talk!
In the stillness of the night, thoughts filled my head,
Of ghosts, and goblins, and creatures awakened from the dead.
Each step I took only intensified my dread.
I couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong with me.
Maybe I was just scared because it was All Hallow’s Eve?
Or was I just leery over my bad luck?
I’d been feeling jumpy since morning when I first woke up.
Thinking of zombies and monsters—silly superstition
To scare people like me with a paranoid condition.
How I wished I could just seriously clear my mind--
But that’s when I heard footsteps creeping from behind!
I listened to make sure they weren’t just echoes of mine.
But no—I was certain these were different, separate and clear.
My whole body began to prickle with fear.
I turned around to look, but saw that nobody was there.
Was I just imagining the sudden coldness in the air?
I quickened my pace, in a hurry to get inside.
How I wished I could just call someone for a ride!
But I just kept going; I needed to reach my house.
Then I came to a screeching halt because I saw a mouse.
Actually, not just one mouse, but about ten dozens.
Trailing along with him was every single one of his cousins.
Creepily organized, the formed a line across the road.
Their yellow eyes shined and glinted like they were made of gold--
Except for the centers: the pupils were bright red.
They looked right at me and impossibly, my panic spread.
I began to back away; I was quietly retreating,
Obviously scared beyond belief—completely beyond all reason.
The mice started to inch forward, as if they were playing.
Then from somewhere behind me, I heard children saying,
“Trick or Treat!” in abnormally loud singsong voices.
The mice began to squeak, imitating the children’s noises.
Behind me were a line of kids, their faces covered with masks.
The biggest one spoke again, “Trick or treat, we asked?”
“What?” I said, “why are you kids out here on the road?
Especially at this time of night! It’s dark and it’s cold.”
“We could ask the same of you. You’re not from around here.”
My breath caught in my throat. Praying for patience, I said, “My dear,
My car broke down. I’m just trying to get home.
Why don’t you get back to trick-or-treating, and leave me alone?”
“I’m afraid that’s not possible,” said the voice of a small girl.
“And just why not?” I asked. “What in the world—”
But I was cut off. And now the real terror unfurled…
One by one, I watched each child remove their mask.
Their faces were not of children, but over overgrown rats.
Then the cloth of their costumes ripped, revealing wings like bats.
“Miss, did you not see what road you were on?”
Frozen in fear, I stood there for I don’t know how long--
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing; it just made me sick.
One of the smaller ones pointed to a sign that read ‘666’
“You should have known this. It would have done you well.
This road starts with ‘H’ and rhymes with ‘swell’.
You can scream all you want, but no one will hear you yell.”
I felt so light-headed; my very heart fell.
I wanted to turn and run, but the line of mice had grown.
“Oh God! Please don’t hurt me! I just want to go home!”
“But we can’t deny our kids the sweetest treat they’ve ever known.”
Then straight from nowhere, a truck zoomed down the road.
The rat-children became disgruntled, falling out of attack mode.
The truck stopped next to me, and open swung the passenger’s door.
“Get in Missy,” the driver said. He needed to say no more.
I leapt inside and he immediately drove away.
I was out of breath, but I was so thankful I didn’t know what to say,
So still in shock, I remained silent the whole entire way.
Before I knew it, the truck had stopped right in front of my house.
Without giving it much thought, I opened the door and hopped right out.
But finally, some form of manners managed to return to me.
Because if he had not shown up when he did, who knows where I would be.
But when I turned to thank him, I felt my heart and my jaw drop.
Would the horrors of this dreadful night ever come to a stop?
The truck grew transparent and the driver did too.
I rubbed my eyes, but deep inside, I knew it was true.
The truck and the man were disappearing in thin air.
“Happy Halloween,” said the driver, who was no longer there.

First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who showed their support for my first published novel, Double Take. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated it, as well as the learning experience it provided for me. As of today, I have decided to take Double Take out of print. I plan to re-release a new and improved edition of the novel at a later date that has not yet been determined. It is my hope though that I will be able to do so within 2015. In the meantime, all of my other works are still available through FastPencil (Viewer's Choice and A.N.D.I.E.) and Amazon Kindle (A School with No Name).
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

A NEW LIFE
by: T.D. Edwards
I woke up this morning feeling kind of strange.
There was a chill in the air and coldness in my veins.
I climbed out of bed, yawning very loudly.
That’s when I noticed that my vision was a little cloudy,
Partially because it was so bright inside the room--
It seemed like the sun had risen much too soon.
I looked out the window, saw children walking to school--
One was dressed like a witch, the other—like a ghoul.
It occurred to me that today was actually Halloween--
Maybe I just felt jumpy from the scary movies I’d seen.
Time dragged by slowly—I had nowhere to go.
No work at my job because things were too slow.
I couldn’t seem to wake up, even after about an hour.
I decided I’d better make some coffee and take a nice warm shower.
Strolling to the kitchen, I turned on the coffee pot;
How I loved the smell of coffee when it was fresh and hot.
I then headed to the bathroom and shed off my clothes,
I turned on the water—and lo and behold...
The water hit my skin, and it seriously burned like mad!
I nearly slipped out the tub because it hurt so bad.
In my confusion, I tripped over the clothes I shed--
And then I wondered who put a cross above my shower head?
I knew I didn’t do it; someone else had been in my home…
I looked around paranoid, knowing that I lived alone--
I quickly got dressed and turned on every single light.
Deep down I knew that something here just wasn’t right.
Sometime in the evening, the doorbell started ringing.
I put my hand over mouth to keep myself from screaming.
“It’s just trick-or-treaters,” I said, remembering it was Halloween.
I put on a brave face, not wanting my paranoia to be seen.
I opened the door and heard someone say, “It’s really her! Get a torch!”
There were about a dozen adults standing on my porch.
“We’re here on the suspicions of my daughter Mandy.
“Don’t you dare try anything. We’ve got holy water handy.”
The woman who spoke--she was holding a wooden stick.
I said, “I don’t know what you’re up to. Is this some kind of trick?”
“Mandy said a man by the graveyard called you a crazy killer.
He said you bit him in the neck and then you started singing ‘Thriller’.”
I took a step back and slammed the door right in front of their faces.
Why was I cursed to live in a town with a bunch of mental cases?
Bunch of lunatics—on my door they started to bang.
Frustrated, I let out a growl, and then out popped my fangs!
I cried out in surprise and then I hurried to a mirror--
My house was dark, my eyes glowed red, and my vision was suddenly clearer.
I couldn’t believe this was happening—and I don’t frighten often--
But I couldn’t fathom how I hadn’t realized my bed was really a coffin.
Never in my life had I experienced something so scary--
As looking on the floor and seeing my own obituary.
“I know it is a shock,” someone whispered in my ear.
I gave a start and out the shadows, a mysterious man appeared.
He had long fangs of his own, and his smile was haunting and wild.
“I knew I would get you sooner or later, one of these days, my child.
I am the man that Mandy saw, and it is I who actually bit you.
Your memory has not yet returned, but eventually you’ll remember the truth.
Everyone in town knows what you are; you can no longer stay here.
So take my hand, and come with me. A new life awaits you, my dear.”
Still in shock, I couldn’t believe that this all was really true.
The man grinned and then said to me, “Just watch and do what I do.”
He raised his head to the ceiling and wings spread from his back--
Right then and there, I watched him transform into a giant bat.
I froze as I watched him—around my body, he flew--
And then before I knew it, I was a big bat too.
We soared through the house and out of a window with a loud crash.
The people on my porch screamed and ran away in a flash.
The vampire and I continued to fly, each second going faster.
“Happy Halloween,” we screeched, through high-pitched fits of laughter.
